چکیده

A thin-wall structure composed of Ti-6Al-4V has been deposited using direct laser deposition (DLD) from blended Ti, Al, and V elemental powders. The microstructure and composition distribution along the build height direction were intensively investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), and Vickers hardness testing. The microstructures of the as-deposited TiAlV were studied using EDS to determine appropriate weight percentage for Al and V in the blended powders before mixing. The effects of laser power and laser transverse speed on the microstructure were investigated and optimized laser processing parameters were concluded.

Corrigendum to “Experimental Study of Direct Laser Deposition of Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 by Using Pulsed Parameters”

Laser direct metal deposition (LDMD) has developed from a prototyping to a single metal manufacturing tool. Its potential for creating multimaterial and functionally graded structures is now beginning to be explored. This work is a first part of a study in which a single layer of Inconel 718 is deposited on Ti-6Al-4V substrate. Single layer tracks were built at a range of powder mass flow rates...

An Overview of Densification, Microstructure and Mechanical Property of Additively Manufactured Ti-6Al-4V — Comparison among Selective Laser Melting, Electron Beam Melting, Laser Metal Deposition and Selective Laser Sintering, and with Conventional Powder Metallurgy

This chapter begins with an introduction of the fundamental properties of Ti-6Al-4V, and its densification mechanism, typical microstructure and mechanical property achievable by conventional PM routes. This functions as a point of reference for the following discussion of the AM Ti-6Al-4V in terms of densification, microstructure, and mechanical property. The mostly popular laser-based AM tech...

The effect of process parameters on laser-deposited TI-6A1-4V

The purpose of this research is to understand how the process parameters surrounding the Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) process affect the properties of the deposition. The powder used in this research is pre-alloyed titanium powder (Ti-6Al4V), containing 6% wt. aluminum and 4% wt. vanadium. The DMD process involves injecting metallic powder into a weld pool created by a high power industrial la...

Microstructure and property of TiB-reinforced Ti alloy composites by laser metal deposition

TiB-reinforced Ti alloy composites have been laser deposited with pre-alloyed Ti-6Al4V-1B powder. The microstructure of the as-deposited and heat treated composites have been characterized in detail using scanning electron microscope (SEM). A homogeneous dispersion of needle-like TiB precipitates is formed in the Ti-6Al-4V α/β matrix. TiB precipitates promote formation of small near equaxed α/β...

Comparative investigation on the adhesion of hydroxyapatite coating on Ti–6Al–4V implant_ A review paper

Hydroxyapatite (HA) has been used in clinical bone graft procedures for the past 25 years. Although a biocompatible material, its poor adhesion strength to substrate makes it unsuitable for major loadbearing devices. Investigations on various deposition techniques of HA coating on Ti–6Al–4V implants have been made over the years, in particular to improve its adhesion strength to the metal alloy...
